Sharon Kaye O’Connor, LCSW is an autistic holistic psychotherapist, coach, and autism educator in New York City. She is the author of Healing Autistic Burnout. Her practice integrates the elements of traditional psychotherapy, spirituality, and neurodiversity.

Sharon holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Hunter College / CUNY and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York State.

As an undergraduate, Sharon was a music major and played the upright bass in several rambunctious jazz bands. She also sang songs in other languages while not understanding a single word, relying entirely on her autistic tendency to memorize sounds.

After college, Sharon’s special interest in Irish music took her across the ocean by herself to live in Ireland for awhile. There, she spent time wandering around Dublin, playing music in pubs, and busking on Dublin’s famous Grafton Street.

After returning to her native New York area* (*obvs New Jersey), she moved to Manhattan and worked in the music industry for a minute, occasionally going on the road with some extraordinarily loud famous rock bands, and making a few records of her own. But therapy and healing work had always been calling, and she started her graduate training at Hunter.

While in graduate school, Sharon also had the opportunity to begin formally studying holistic modalities including Reiki, energy healing, Holotropic/Transformational Breathwork, and meditation, and was later ordained as a Spiritualist minister.

As a highly sensitive autistic person, Sharon has always had a close connection with the spiritual world. Sharon experiences the world through energy, and has been perceiving and working with energy her whole life.

As explored in her forthcoming book, Healing Autistic Burnout (New Harbinger Publications, 2026) Sharon experiences energy to be “a natural autistic language.” In therapy, healing and consulting sessions, Sharon tunes into clients’ energy to more effectively understand what is present for them.

As a therapist, Sharon combines her knowledge of traditional psychotherapy, creativity, training in holistic modalities, and natural autistic ability to tune into and read energy to help clients feel safe, seen, understood and supported, and to thrive as their most authentic selves.

Thank you for visiting and it is an honor to connect with you.

Why I teach about autism…

As an autistic therapist and autism specialist, I’ve discovered that so much of what we learned about autism in our clinical training was either incorrect or outdated. My mission is to enhance authentic understanding of the autistic experience and autistic community by providing information and training from an autistic perspective.

I support parents, educators, therapists, and health care professionals who support autistic people and would like to better understand the needs of their autistic clients and loved ones. Additionally, I provide non-behaviorist behavior support.

I also support autistic adults in the areas of autistic burnout, self-discovery, and the practicals of living your best autistic life.

Spiritual Therapy in NYC

I offer holistic psychotherapy and coaching for adults focusing on life transitions, anxiety, stress management, grief & loss, and spirituality. As a Spiritualist minister, also trained in Reiki, energy healing, meditation and breathwork, my therapeutic practice is informed by the mind-body-spirit connection, and all things energy.

I frequently work with artists, teachers, musicians, creatives, and folks on non-traditional spiritual paths. I am neuroaffirming, sensory informed, and autism-positive. It is always my mission to help clients feel most supported and welcomed as their authentic selves.

In my practice, I offer…

Holistic Psychotherapy and Coaching

Holistic psychotherapy and coaching for adults, 18+ focusing on areas of anxiety, stress management, gaining greater self-insight, neurodiversity, grief & loss, spirituality, and life transitions.

Autism Education & Consulting
